my mom has this camera.. for the price i guess its ok but a new updated camera i would recomend..

i would sugest look at other cameras before you deside this one

pros:

a very simple camera

not hard to use

cons:

no special features like b&w or vivid or timer or anything

some pictures come out blurry.. dont take pictures too close up.. flash is not good for close-ups.. takes 4 batterys.. not a slim camera

overall its ok if you dont want to spend lots of money and looking for just a very simple camera easy to use and dont want any fancy features you wont use

 "Great First Digital Camera!" 2006-03-17
By S. Bruner (Montana, USA)
We bought this camera from a relative who wasn't ready for the digital age (even though it's extremely simple to use). We've had it for 4 years now and it has never failed us yet! We use it for every function and with our outdoors lifestyle and 2 active little girls, it's been dropped repeatedly with no problems in function--it's tough! The only problem I have with it is the aforementioned battery door problem (which was already broken when we received it) but a thick rubberband has worked wonders and we have no problems with it draining batteries as long as our 3-year old doesn't pull the rubber band off! This is a great camera for a first-time digital camera user and with the Compact Flash card, it holds an amazing amount of photos! We do print ours out and they are just as clear (if not clearer) than a regular 35mm film camera when the digital is set to 'best' so it's really a bargain! This is a great camera folks, we highly recommend it!

By Mr.BLB (CT)
one of my friends saw this cam for cheap 3 years ago so me and another of our buddies went out and bought the cam. it was our first digi cam and for what it is its great. nothing fancy here, just a simple point and shoot digi cam which produces some pretty good pics. i have took it anywhere and everywhere i have gone, and have always been happy with the pics, a few weeks back i updated to a Panasonic FZ-20, so this Kodak will live its life out in my glove box, never know when a cam will come in handy and this one is great. its rugged and tough so it will with stand the glove box tumbles.

please remember that this camera i bought 3 years ago and in todays world its not worth the price of 150 though if you find it for 50 or less then by all means buy it.

"Good starter camera with a few flaws" 2004-10-27
By Shoe Princess (Louisiana)
This was my first digital camera. It was given to me as a Christmas gift two years ago and it's still working to this day. However, the door that holds the batteries in broke long ago so I have rubber bands tied around it to keep the batteries in place. My Mom has the same camera bought at the same time mine was (she bought both of them together) and guess what? Her battery door is broken too! My second complaint is the lag time between when you actually press the button and when the actual image is recorded. This is problematic when taking pictures of my toddler who is always in motion. My third and final complaint is the flash, but I see that's already been discussed here so I won't dwell on it; let's just say put your sunglasses on because it will blind you!

But I have taken literally thousands of pictures with this camera and as I said, after two years of steady use, it still works. It's easy to operate. It's affordable. The quality of the pictures is good for emailing purposes (I rarely print them out). I recently upgraded to the Canon Powershot A75, but I'll keep my Kodak around for a backup. If you're on a tight budget and can't spring for anything pricey, or if you just want a really basic digital camera, you should be pleased with this one.

 "Best camera to date" 2004-04-11
By (South Bend, IN United States)
I bought this camera when it first came out in a package deal that also included a photo printer. I have hardly used the printer as it took to long to print and was difficult to navigate. I have loved the camera, though, until the tragic day that I accidentally dropped it the the battery door broke. We've tried, unsucessfully to keep it closed using all kinds of extra strong taping products, but it only holds long enough to take one picture and sometimes not even that long. It is way past its warranty and I knew it was being discontinued. I have just today purchased a newer camera with more up-to-date functions, but this one has been very good to me. It will be missed.

 "Good Investment" 2009-01-10
By Amy E. Collins (Rocky Mountains, Co)
I bought this camera for my little sister for Christmas. So far we haven't had any problems with it- and she has quite enjoyed having her own digital camera to use and take with her! I would suggest this camera for people who are just looking to capture timeless photos and relive memories. It's nothing too incredibly fancy, but there are options and settings that exceed what you might expect. All in all I gave this camera four stars; and the company I bought it from was very honest and truthful!

 "Great Camera" 2008-10-11
By Cindy Hubbard (Maine)
I purchased this camera just 2 months before a big family trip to Italy (15 of us).

This camera is straight forward and easy to learn. I found that the digital stabilation was a great tool, removing blurriness from "shake" and small movements.

Many of the photos

look so great, they're like postcards. Truly, I cant believe my husband and I are the ones that took those shots. It took great shots in many environments, night pictures in Venice, artwork in Florence, the Tuscan landscape, even the closeups of Italian gelato & desserts!! We were also pleased with the video, again simple to use and we were thrilled with the sound that came through for a classical concert. I would say the only problematic thing is if the sun is shining straight at the camera, and the photo is difficult to see in the camera window, use another angle because those didnt come out well.

I had been hesitant in trying digital again due to the purchase of a Vivitar that was very difficult to use. The Kodak was a joy to use and many other family members were curious about it and tried it out. Its so small & perfect for travel.

I believe it was in another review on this board that I used the advise to get a different rechargeable battery which I did. And we did require recharging every couple of days (14 day trip) and took over 300 pictures

which the bulk of were on a 1G card and then we started another card.

My hope is you will find this useful in your research for a good, easy to use camera. Best wishes on your everyday outings & adventures!!

"Grainy, blurry, and slow: poor quality camera" 2008-07-03
By rose jones (Tallahassee, FL United States)
My last Kodak Easyshare camera was a real workhorse and produced great photos. I was happy to buy the M853 because I expected the same quality, and because it was recommended by a leading consumer magazine. Turned out to be nowhere near as good as the last camera...even though that one was several years old! The problem lies in the picture quality. 8MP?? Really?? You'd never know it looking at the photos it takes.

If you're taking shots outdoors in bright sunlight and both you and the subject (e.g. a flower) are perfectly still, the pictures come out very nice indeed. However, everything else comes out grainy, blurry and badly lit. Taking photos of my toddler, especially indoors, has been a nightmare. Half my photos have to be deleted because they are blurry. And they come out blurry even when the subject is sitting fairly still. Basically, this camera cannot handle any movement at all.

Second issue: Red eye is a HUGE problem with this camera. I am constantly fixing red eye in my pics. It is driving me nuts.

Third issue: slow, slow, slow. This camera takes forever to focus, and sometimes requires a break of several seconds to -- I don't know -- process or something. Anyway, all this means I have lost great picture-taking opportunities time after time. Very frustrating!

Other problems: the camera is small and slippery with nothing for the fingers to grip onto for stability. As others have noted, it feels/looks a bit cheap. Also, the control dial on top is tiny and spins too easily. The controls overall are small and difficult to use...and I am a woman with smallish fingers.

Bear in mind I am an enthusiastic digital camera user. Nope, I'm no expert, but I enjoy taking photos, I'm careful with my cameras, and I always read the instructions. I am used to getting excellent results with a simple point-and-shoot like this.

Shopping around? I urge you to consider another camera and give this a miss. Kodak: you've lost a customer. I'm now looking for a replacement.

"Fine camera, but no battery indicator (wtf?) and few advanced features" 2008-05-31
By Evan Murphy (Pittsburgh, PA USA)
This was my first digital camera, and I bought it just a few weeks ago before a trip to Europe. It worked very well for me, even though there's no battery indicator (ridiculous). I found the camera to be nicely compact, user-friendly, and a good price. Experienced photographers will probably lament the lack of control, but I suppose that's true of most cameras in this league.

This camera fits in a pocket, takes excellent digital photographs, and fulfills all my expectations of Kodak products. I bought a Kodak Z740 some time ago and love it. Its only drawback is bulky size. This smaller Kodak is great to take along when you don't have much room, and does the job of picture-taking very well. I'm glad I bought it.

 "DISAPPOINTED" 2010-09-10
By tanmanmom
At first we were impressed with this camera. It was a gift to my daughter and she loved how cute it was and easy to use. Then the camera died. It would not turn on or power up. I spent hours on the internet researching and eventually chatted with Kodak for over 40 minutes. I was told the camera needed to be sent in for repairs. The instructions for mailing alone were ridiculous. I then received 2 different e-mails from Kodak indicating that the warranty was void. I called and spent over 45 minutes on the phone with a Kodak representative. She told me everything from the camera was damaged to I needed a proof of purchase to fix it. She also couldn't guarantee my camera could be fixed, but quoted $55.00 for parts, labor and shipping. I am so frustrated and disappointed with Kodak I will never buy another product. Good bye Kodak!!!!!!!

At least one day beyond the warranty period! Purchased July 11, 2009. This camera died while still under warranty; however, our daughter was overseas visiting family and we were not able to return the camera until she returned home yesterday (1 year, 2 days). HP support had us on hold indefinitely, so we hung up after 30 minutes and sent an email. Disappointed that the camera lasted barely 12 months. Our daughter takes good care of her property; this item was not mis-handled or abused. We neither endorse nor recommend this product.

"Makes my video camera obsolete!" 2009-07-07
By Scott E. Baber (Spring Hill FL USA)
What I like:

Great photo and video resolution

Auto mode that picks the right mode most of the time

Battery charges inside the camera from any USB port or with the supplied AC adapter.

Slick design with a large view screen

The cool joystick control.

What I don't like

Camera is so small it is easy to hit the shutter button by accident when you are reviewing photos.

Takes a while to learn to press the shutter half way to focus before taking the photo.

While zooming taking a video the picture goes out of focus for a few seconds.

Need extra software to convert the videos to burn onto a DVD that will play on a DVD player

Great camera, anyone can take great photos. I really like that I can charge the battery inside the camera just by plugging in the supplied cable into any USB port. The HD video is better then my mini DV camera. I need three software programs to convert the videos and burn them on a DVD, but the results are great.

The supplied Owners manual left out a lot of information. You really need to go to the Kodak internet site and read the extended Users Guide online to learn all the features of this camera.

I'm really happy with this camera and would recommend it to anyone. Don't forget to order a few 8GB SD cards and the extra batteries and external charger.Sandisk 8GB SDHC Memory Card (SDSDB-8192, Bulk Package)2 BATTERY+CHARGER FOR KODAK KLIC-7004 V1073 V1273 M1033

when my last kodak died, i knew i wanted another. this one is really fun to use. it is small and cute, and really easy. i gave it a 4 only because it doesn't have a view finder (which makes it hard to see what you are taking a picture of when it is sunny outside) and the pictures aren't quite as clear as i expected...although my expectations may have been a little higher than they should have. overall, i would reccommend this camera!

I bought this camera when it first came out in 1998 for $700 + TAX!!!!

This is what i got: Unnatural blurry pictures, 4 AA batteries run out after 10 shots, no options, slow shutter speed, zoom sucks, have to wait forever between pictures, uses old compact flash, slow transfer rate (serial port, 1 min per pic!), software sucks (wont install on newer versions of windows), no lens cap, nowhere to hold on while taking pictures.

Please, go and get yourself a real camera. You can get one 10 times better for the same price. Try Cannon, Nikon, HP ...... Kodak is not the anwser!!!!!!

 "dc-210 worth a look" 2003-09-15
By rdavis@nyx.net (Overland Park, KS United States)
As digital cameras with better resolution appear, the Kodak DC-210 seems perhaps outdated. But it is not. For pictures to insert into web pages, it is perfect. The DC-210 has a large LCD for viewing photos, and a two to one optical zoom lens. Using CF memory, getting pictures from the camera to your computer is very easy. It even works on my Amiga 3000. If there is any problem with the camera, it is the short battery life. You will go through a lot of AA alkalines if you use the LCD much, but that is not a serious problem. Just don't pay a whole lot for the DC-210, as new cameras in the 1.1 megapixel class are now under $100.

If you are looking for speed this is not your camera. I love it! I am more into quality of pictures rather than the speed I can take them. This camera lets you view every picture right after you take it and immediatly decide if you want ot keep it. I take all my pictures on the best quality and I think they are great! If you use the duracell ultra battery you shouldn't have a problem.

"High Priced, Low Performance Dud of a Camera" 2002-11-01
By C. McCloud (Fayetteville, NC United States)
Initially the camera worked fine. Pictures were of good quality and all features worked fine. After only a few months the camera's performance has dropped considerably. Brand new batteries only last for about 12 pictures, the camera doesn't even power up at times even with new batteries. If you check the other reviews you'll find equally frustrating problems others have had with the DC210. Consumer Reports' Nov 2002 issue contains Kodax's repair history which speaks for itself. The same issue also provides excellent alternative cameras with superior features at much lower cost. My advice: Don't waste your hard earned cash on the overpriced, poor performing DC210.

By Pixy5
I have had this camera for about 5 years. It is small and compact and despite some rough handling, some dropping, I have never had any problems with it. It takes great pictures, both long views and close ups. It even does a pretty decent "macro" picture after cropping. It is very easy to learn to use, has good options as far as focus. The auto setting is good, the zoom feature is easy to use. The battery lasts a long time. Overall, for the price I paid, about $180 at the time, it has been a very good buy. Would recommend this for someone who wants a camera to take shots for fun.

 "Love this camera" 2009-09-09
By John Green
I bought this camera for my wife a couple years ago and it has been wonderful. Pictures come out great and the camera itself is extremely easy to use with a lot of features. The only thing I will look for different in our next camera is the ability to find a waterproof case (or just get a waterproof camera). One piece of advice, use name brand SD cards, I don't know if it was the card or the camera didn't like the cheap SD I put into it but few of the pictures came out and it would lock up the camera. When I put a name brand card back in, the camera worked normal.

"Not such a great buy..." 2009-07-17
By LUCE
This camera isn't such a good camera. I've only had it for 2 years and it's broken three times, the same problem each times. The camera has frozen on me many times, which causes me to have to take out the battery and put it back in. To me, it takes too long to turn on and the shutter lag is pretty long, which causes me to miss some shots I would have liked to get. The video isn't too great as well because if it's windy outside, it picks up the wind and it blocks out the sounds. As well with parties with loud music, it sounds VERY static-y and you cant hear anything. I've gone through that many times and I miss hearing things while watching video. The video is probably the worst on this camera.

The camera does not do well in low-light settings, the pictures mostly come out very dark. Although it takes nice pictures outdoors. Also, when you would zoom in for a picture, the picture would become very blurry.

On the plus side, this camera is a very easy to use and easy to take anywhere. What I liked was that if you accidentally deleted a picture you could get it back right after, and also the Favorites button. The pictures are OK, but not great. Although, I would not recommend this camera.

I am actually buying a new camera next week, I am getting the Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS. I went to Best Buy and played around with it and I was very impressed, it's a wonderful camera that takes unbelieveable CLEAR, CRISP pictures. And it's also a more sturdy camera than the Kodak V803.

So overall, to me, the Kodak V803 is not worth $200. You can get a way better camera for a way better price. Hope this helped ;)

"Nice basic point-and-shoot...until it breaks...and breaks again." 2010-07-20
By Larry Stillman (Irvine, CA USA)
Nice little camera for my 13 yr-old daughter. She really liked it. 9 months after purchase, it would turn on, then immediately off. The warranty covered it. 9 months after the repair, the same malfunction reoccurred, now out of warranty. I spoke with customer service to discuss cost. $70, or a 15% discount towards a new one. I told him, point blank, no thanks, it's time for Canon.

On a side note, I took a Colorado River raft trip in 1989, shooting Kodak slide film from the boat. I'd shot slides for years, almost all Kodak, and used their pre-paid mailers for developing. One of these precious river rolls was somehow developed concurrently with someone else's slide roll, essentially double exposing mine and theirs, ruining the roll. I wrote Kodak, just looking for the barest apology, maybe a free roll, but received nothing. I never shot Kodak again.

but not over do it. but boy it can be slow to process the picture you just took, maybe to slow for some, as the next shot is lost because you are waiting for the last shot to be saved. This is not my Canon DSLR but if you dont mind the wait the pictures it takes are very nice.

"Best camera I ever bought!" 2009-11-08
By Half Full (San Diego, CA)
I actually purchased this camera about 4 years ago (for a lower price than listed). Since then, I've loved this camera. It's super easy to use and takes great quality shots. I recently made a trip to Monterey, CA and have postcard quality pics to remember it by. Even inside a dimly lit aquarium I managed to get beautiful shots. I appreciate the fact that it "rates" my shots via a small hand-like icon, based on clarity. Green for good, yellow for fair and red for poor. All in all, it's a great buy. And to all the reviewers who can't understand what we're raving about...you probably just got a dud. It's been known to happen.

 "Nothing but disappointment" 2010-05-12
By Curtis Vinson (Bothell, washington United States)
The V1003 is my third Kodak camera. The first two went to our children. The picture quality was good only in bright light situations. The flash did not provide adequate light indoors. I resorted to taking pictures indoors without the flash for better results. Blurring and grainy pictures led me to Kodak for help. They were useful in assisting me in syncing my flash to the camera but results were only slightly better. I really lost the fun in point and shoot picture taking because this camera always disappointed.

"Sweet little camera for unprofessionals" 2010-03-24
By LulzLaura
Okay I've had this camera for about two or three years. The reason why I got it was because of the colors it came in. But someone ended up giving it to me as a gift in BLACK anyway.

All in all, I like this camera. It's my second digital camera since the 90s, and yeah it's a huge step up. I've dented the outside, majority of the print and stickers have worn themselves off, and I've dropped it on more than one occasion and it's held up. And it's small enough to fit in my jeans pocket, down my shirt or just throw in my purse.

What I like about it, is the ease of picking settings. When you're at a concert, down in the pits somewhere with general admission, you don't have time to fuss around with turning wheels or going through menus. This camera is exceedingly easy to switch between different modes. You press one button, and you have a screen full of options from portrait, low light, custom settings, etc. So you pick one, take a quick pic, look at the result...not good enough? Go ahead and switch it. You don't have to go in and out of menus while the crowd is pushing you from every which way, it's just super fast to find a setting you want.

Also you don't need a degree to use it. It pretty much just has ONE button to take photos or record a video. Not rocket science, I'm sure anyone would get the hang of it.

But it does have it's down sides. The time it takes to take a photo is a bit long. I mean if you're handing this off to a friend to take a pic for you, make sure you TELL them to hold onto it because you can't just press the button and expect it to immediately take the photo. They'll try to give it back to you and you're left with some super blur.

And now that I've gotten into product photography though to sell things off my website this camera has been quite frustrating! It is such an adventure getting it to focus. And yes, like other reviewers say, it tends to go click.click.click randomly loud enough to be heard on the video mode. At first I thought I broke it! Recently I've switched it manual focus instead of auto and I haven't seen much of a difference.

All in all, it's durable, it's cool maybe if you are a teenager or in the market for your FIRST digital camera for it's ease of use, but if you want to get professional with it, you'll probably throw it out the window.

 "This camera sucks!" 2010-01-22
By Looking for the Perfect Item (Alaska)
The day I got this camera I took a lot of pictures and it worked nice but they were kinda blury and did not do well with movement in the picture! As time went by I realized that this camera really sucked! After a year the battery would not stay charged so my reaction was that the battery just needed to be replaced so I ordered a new battery! But it still would not charge more than 1 bar! Finally a month after I replaced the battery it refused to work unless it was plugged in! ITS A PIECE OF TRASH!

 "Nice Image Quality" 2010-01-09
By T. Lin (Calif USA)
Bought this camera as my spare. It works well and very portable. It takes the auto focus longer than usual to focus. So if you need quick shot, you may end up with a blurry one. Every Kodak is different. I have seen other Kodak auto focusing instantly. This V1003 takes too long to focus.

One thing I must say is Kodak should protect this camera LCD display with another hardened glass. I see many cases of broken LCD and you know when that happens, you might as well get another one.
