 "Just say NO!" 2009-12-30
By Nickie L. Parrish (NC)
This camera is very easy to use, light & portable.

However, the picture quality is seriously lacking!

The shutter time is extremely slow, and even when you take the time to be sure the face recognition box is in focus, the picture is still very grainy & blurry. Ultimately... I returned this item.

Are you absolutely sure this camera is a Kodak?

"Very disappointed in Kodak right now" 2009-12-13
By Shannon Silva (Brookhaven, PA)
I was always a big fan of Kodak until we purchased this camera. I have a 2 year old son and need something that will keep up with his quick moves. After a week of using this camera, I decided to return it. More than half of the pictures we took were incredibly grainy and blurry. Some were excellent, but I don't want a camera that gives me good pictures only half the time. I returned it today and purchased the Canon 1200IS and am so happy with it. For $20 more, it seems like a much better camera. The Kodak was a 12 mp and the Canon is a 10 with a smaller screen, but I still can't say enough good things about it. Hopefully Kodak will up it's quality control in the future!

By Elisabeth Caraballo (Chicago, IL)
I purchased this camera at a Pre-Thanksgiving Sale and was so excited to use it. Well I got home, took everything out of the box and started to shoot my two little girls. Well I was noticing that everything was blurry. So I changed the camera to blurr reduction and it was still bad. I have now had this camera for 2 weeks, and I have decided that I will be taking it back. This was the worst money every spent. My 5 megapixel took better pix than this! Very disappointed!

 "No Thanks" 2009-11-23
By Jeff C. (Chicago, IL United States)
Like the first reviewer, I have been a professional for more than 30 years. I have seen point-and-shoot technology skyrocket in recent years, and have personally shot images with my previous Kodak digital that rivaled those from my expensive digital SLR. I decided to purchase the M381 to use for shooting a client event. Since the event included a rock concert, I did not want to lug around an SLR that probably would not be approved for use in an arena. Of the more than 200 images I shot, perhaps 25 are useable. On the beautiful 3" LCD, they looked fine when shot. Once offloaded however, they were extremely grainy, and most were too blurred to use. I should be clear that these were images of attendees, not the concert itself, and included many shot at a pre-concert venue that was well-lit. To be fair, a few were stunningly clear and sharp, but shots before and after, with the same settings were terrible.

I have always been happy with Kodak products, and after spending huge sums of money over the years on their film, darkroom paper and chemicals, I have a sentimental interest in seeing Kodak succeed in the digital arena. But this camera performed quite poorly in my opinion. Although this item is priced attractively, I cannot afford to try a replacement. I need equipment to perform out of the box. I may try a more expensive Kodak digital in hope that you "get what you pay for," but this was a disappointing experience from a company I trusted.

"Buy at your Own Risk" 2010-01-20
By M. Baca
This camera is horrible. took on a vacation trip and took about 300 photos. Blurry pictures unless you are in direct sunlight, standing about 10 feet away.

I bought this because of a great experience with a Z885 kodak. I'm taking it back

to the store today and getting a refund.

Also, the shutter is slow. You press the button and it takes about 2 seconds to photograph.

This is a killer when you're photographing anything moving.

Add low light conditions and your photos look like a stoned collage.

I'm going to pay to get my Z885 fixed (drains batteries quickly) because that camera

was AWESOME compared to this one.

 "Very Disappointed" 2009-12-23
By Mrs. Virginia A. Butterfield (Cranberry Twp, Pa)
I was excited to get this camera to replace one several years old. Sadly, I am very disappointed with the picture quality. As many others have said, many of the pictures turn out fuzzy or blurry. The camera seems good for general scenery outdoors. However taking candids of groups of people, most pictures are blurry beyond repair. Twice I relied on this camera at events I attended and was VERY displeased with the results. I am going back to my old camera from now on. Also, for pictures of my dogs and cats, the camera is very poor as far as "red eye" even though there is a setting to supposedly reduce it. Most all cat and dog pictures are ruined by "red eye". I cannot recommend this camera. It is very disappointing. Does not matter it it is 12MP if the pictures are not clear to start with.

 "Inconsistent Pictures" 2009-11-19
By Deb D. (Nashville, TN)
I have used Kodak EasyShare products since I first started with digital cameras and have always found them to be great, but in this case, I was very disappointed. Almost 75 percent of the pictures I took were blurry or the lighting was poor. The pictures that did come out were great, but that was rare. After three weeks of working with the camera and even emailing Kodak, I gave up and sent the camera back. I replaced it with an even less expensive cannon that has consistently delivered good pics.

"OK - but a few major issues...." 2009-11-01
By jlynnva (Virginia)
I bought this camera directly from Kodak to replace a Kodak EasyShare C613 - I also own a larger 6 year old Kodak EasyShare as well.

The Kodak C613 was a good little camera that I bought for about $75 on sale 2 years ago - I wasn't expecting the best being as we only paid $75 for it - figured it would be good to take with us when we went places where the larger one would be too bulky to carry with us or for my husband to take along with him on hunting trips - figuring if it wound up broken due to our own negligence we would not be out a lot of money. It served us well for 2 years before the lens cover broke...

When it came to replacing it - we wanted the same - easy to tote around, under $100 with a few different options. Figuring we have had good luck with cameras from Kodak in the past I bought this camera directly from Kodak and paid just under $100 (had a coupon code for % off).

Out of the box it worked well - it took a little while to go through and see all the different scenes and see how it works...there are a few features that were not on the C613 that i really like - such as the Panoramic option - a very cool feature...and the red eye reduction flash does work great...

I have had some trouble at time getting good clear pictures - even with proper lighting sometimes it appears the camera is in focus and when I look back at the picture it is not.

Video is decent for $100 camera - don't expect the best quality and if anyone is expecting great quality video from a camera then you shouldn't be relying on one that costs under $100.

The BIGGEST problem I have having is actually getting the pictures to show up sometimes...One of the things I do like is that you connect the camera to your computer via a USB cable - However I go to load picture up into the Kodak software I have and while I can see the picture as a thumbnail - when I go to bring it up it gives me an error message saying the "file exists but might be damaged" - if I try and open it in another photo program (windows picture viewer, HP image) I get some sort of error message as well...when I go to properties for the picture it shows it is saved in a .jpeg format - it just won't open in anything...

I have tried 2 different SD cards and pictures on both have done this...In fact I opened a new SD card and took a few pictures of my girls - reviewed them on the camera - but when I went to load it up I got an error message that the SD card wasn't formatted and it erased the pictures on the SD card to format it...that sort of pissed me off

But today was really the last straw as I only took one picture of my kids together for Halloween and guess what is the only picture that won't load...I can see a thumbnail on my computer - but can't open it...I am HIGHLY upset at this and because of this I am going to be looking at returning it to Kodak and getting my money back...

I have been extrememly happy with my other 2 Kodak Cameras and for under $100 I could have lived with having to take another picture every now and then if the first one didn't focus right...and lived with a little less sharpness than other more expensive cameras....but not being able to read some pictures is a big deal to me...

 "Nothing Special" 2009-10-22
By A Reader (Las Vegas)
I too bought this camera as an impulse purchase from QVC (the only thing I have ever bought from QVC). I do like the size, the camera case, the color, and the LCD screen. As soon as I got the camera, I began shooting pictures around the house. I used the flash, turned off the flash, and used the night feature. Not one of the pictures had a good, clear quality. Today I went outside in bright sunlight and tried out many of the other options (bright sunlight, flower close-up with bright sun, distance, etc.). When I downloaded those photos, none of them were clear either. They look good on the LCD screen, but not good on the computer, especially when they are enlarged. This camera is promoted as being able to take very high quality photos with the ability to print up to 30 by 40 inches. I don't think so. I am going to keep it for a few more days and try out all of the options. But I have a feeling I'll be returning it. I also thought the construction was cheap; it's a very lightweight plastic (but it is made in China, so it would be silly to expect anything else). I also thought that the battery lid might break with a good gust of wind. When I was trying to close it after inserting the batteries, it didn't feel stable at all. I guess this would be a good camera for a child or teen. But I don't think it's what I was looking for (something small, easy to use, and capable of taking good quality, crisp photos).

"Great camera, but no speaker" 2010-01-27
By Book Reader
I bought this to replace a broken camera. I didn't want to spend a fortune. I like the size and the picture quality is great. I wish Kodak had not changed the on/off switch - now a small button instead of part of the dial that chooses which type of picture.

By far, the biggest drawback is that there is no speaker! So, when you make a video, you have to download it, before being able to hear the audio. I had no idea this was the case and my children are very disappointed by the lack of speaker.

"Kodak? this is a better camera than you would expect!" 2010-01-21
By N. Pisani (Albany, OR USA)
First I must say, I am a retired professional. I worked only with negatives. That said, enter the digital world, what do you get in today's digital cameras? -everything including the "kitchen sink". At 65+ I have found the digital cameras very confusing with their multi-function buttons. The Z980 does not have too many functions. This kodak has an excellent lens! Even though many camera reviewers found this camera to be very large, I am comfortable with the size of the Z980. Three things stand out for me. First the most important, the lens, is a Schneider-Kreuznach. This lens use to be made in Germany, now I don't know. The picture quality however is worthy of the name. Second is the fact that the camera has image stabilization, which aids getting a sharp picture even if you are not as steady as you once were. Third, I really like the added grip for composing "vertical" photo's. Yes it adds size to the camera, buy being able to compose a vertical photo as to seeing the image properly, having a second shutter release designed just for vertical shots is wonderful. I did not rate the battery life as I have not had the camera long enough. And service, have not needed any. I test every new camera purchase in the first days of ownership so I know wether, I want to keep it. I take a few shots and make an 11x14 print in this case a close-up of a blooming rose. Result: color-GREAT, and picture quality sharp as a tack.

 "Great Camera!!!" 2009-12-17
By Shawn Davis (Columbus, OH USA)
This camera is spectacular! It has great features and you don't come across many cameras with a 24X zoom off of a built in lens and it is 12MP too! This camera was discontinued by Kodak and replaced by the Z950 I believe which is not even close. If you happen to come across one of these buy it quickly. Getting more and more difficult to find.

"A few more kinks to work out, Kodak" 2009-12-05
By K. Barnes (Texas)
Kodak tried to enter the world of "close to DSLR" cameras with this one, and it was a nice attempt. I LOVED this camera for the first two months and then I started to notice picture quality wasn't the same as it had been. 90% of the pictures looked like the subjects were in motion with what I called a "comet tail" behind them, or the hands, feet and hair of my children became transparent. Heaven forbid something actually was in motion! The flash also became very picky about when it would go off. Even in "manual" mode with the flash set to constantly fire, it would only go off about 20% of the time, making for HORRIBLE and sometimes even unrecognizable pictures. We called Kodak and the tech. support people treated me like I was an incompetent idiot, telling me to first remove my memory card because the problem must be with the non-kodak memory card... and then it MUST have been my non-kodak batteries that were currently in the camera... and then it MUST have been because I wasn't pressing the correct button. I was instructed to turn the camera to smart capture mode and turn the flash to a constant setting. That's not an option in the Smart Capture mode by the way, and when I told them that, I surely was doing something wrong until I rambled off the flash mode options and it still wasn't an option. It became clear that I knew more about this camera than the guy on the other end of the phone. We sent the camera in for service. The day we received the camera back, I pulled it out of the box, switched it to manual mode, turned the flash on and only 2 out of the first 5 pictures did the flash fire on. Sooo dissappointed! We called Kodak back and the first person I was speaking to asked if he could transfer me, I said sure, expecting to talk to his supervisor and he just did a lateral transfer so he didn't have to talk to me. The next guy did transfer me to a supervisor, who was unbelieveably rude and mouthy. He interruped me repeatedly and wouldn't let me speak. My husband came home and called, got another supervisor who told us this model had been discontinued and was a "special addition" (1 says yes 2 say no, at kodak...? who knows?- That tells me they know there are problems with this camera). They wanted us to send our camera BACK in for repairs (what makes you think they'll fix it this time if they didn't fix it last time?) and if they couldn't fix it they were going to send us a 'refurbished' model. They were going to have their manager call us within 48 business hours... a week later we called them. They wanted us to send it back again, we wanted a refund. The product is defective and the customer support was less than desireable. Thank goodness for Wal-Mart, we were able to an exchange for a 'brand new' camera that we got home and took out of the torn box, to open the camera to find the straps already attached, lens cap already attached and took some pics, and the flash didn't work on that one either! We ended up getting a refund from them Wal-Mart. God bless 'em... it wasn't their battle, but they corrected it. I will never buy a kodak again after having owned 4 of them. Never again simply because of the customer service and their inablility to admit they fell short on this model and refund the money.

 "Lovin this camera" 2009-10-05
By K. Morgante (East Coast USA)
I'm not a professional photographer but am leaning in that direction with my art/design items. The outdoor photos possible with this camera are fantastic. I most often use the smart capture setting or one of the many options in the scene setting all easy to navigate to. I've used flower, back light and stage often and came out with excellent photos. An in depth knowledge of the camera's inner workings or manual options is not required to generate notable photos. One day I will pull out the directions to learn more about the manual options, but I'm not there yet. I have also found the action selection which allows multiple shots to be taken in sequence, to be a great feature which I've longed for in a digital, and though I do not think the results have been professional quality, I have some pretty good photos of varied sporting events. Indoor pictures I some times have to play with the selections a bit to get the right lighting effect (or turn on more lights in the location). The battery life concerned me based on the other reviews, however, after the 1st couple charges I have found if I let the camera charge the est. 14 hrs recommended and let the battery drain almost completely/or completely before the next charge, I have hours of usage and really no issue. Now, opening up the usb port section is tricky but also easy once u get use to it. Downfall to this camera is the lense cap. I can't get the thing to stay on well.

 "Easyshare C190 good value" 2010-01-30
By James T. Malcolm (Powder Springs, GA, USA)
I watched the price drop on this camera for a couple of months and then made the purchase after Christmas. Maybe end of year inventory cycles created the 2 week delay before delivery. I am a little disappointed in the picture quality, but it is still a good value for the price. The anti blur setting is a must if zoomed in at all and the red eye effect leaves a lot to be desired in close ups requiring the flash. Good quality, inexpensive cases for this camera are plentiful. I explored several lens zooms (up to 12x) and settled on this 5x as a compromise, since the longer zooms appear to require more power and reduce battery life. My goal was a higher quality, zoomable camera to use when my iPhone proves inadequate and this product fills the bill.
