"a good beginner basic or young child's camera" 2010-02-03
By Jen Schellings (the zoo)
We bought this the week my son was born in 2005 because it was cheap & we needed a digital to use with our computer to send pictures quickly. The plastic body doesn't seem too strong, but has held up to being dropped several times by my son. It has basic functions; auto, night portrait, flash settings including red eye reduction & silent video - the video tends to be grainy and you need to hold very still while using it. Using the video you'll need lots of light, this doesn't do well in low light. It's very easy to learn to use, but also limited. If you only need it for snapshots (think Polaroid), it's ok, but there are so many better, smaller cameras available with 6 megapixels or more, with better zoom (look for optical zoom instead of digital zoom) function & better quality photos. The Sony Cybershot series, for example, is very good, as is Canon's PowerShot line & Nikon's Coolpix among many others, quite a few are slimmer & and can fit easily into shirt pocket or clutch. With only 3.2 megapixels, you still can get some decent photographs with this little baby. Over the past few years though, we have upgraded our cameras several times from this one as we quickly outgrew the capabilities of the previous cameras.

I give it two stars because it is limited, basic, the video is silent & grainy and this camera burns through batteries faster than other compact digitals. I had to change batteries every 3-4 days. Save your money for a more recent compact digital that will give you better photos and not drain your batteries so quickly. I would highly recommend investing in a set of Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. I've been using them in my larger, more energy hungry cameras & they last a long time, longer than Energizer's NiMH rechargables. Next to the compacts available these days, this one just doesn't stand out.

This little Kodak is now our son's & he loves it his first camera. He is not quite 5 and loves taking pictures of everything - kind of like me with my 110 film camera when I was a kid, except with no expense of film & developing!

By M. Kraeszig
I purchased this camera a year or two ago as a gift. She has only used it a few times. One day, it abruptly stopped working. Batteries were changed, etc., but the camera was just plain dead. It was not abused, so we are at a loss to explain why it went "patas arriba." Very disappointing.

By D. Clark (NC)
I bought this as a gift for my nine year old daughter. It's great. Not complicated to work at all. Bought it used and still in great working order. Only negative is that it doesn't have a button to zoom. You have to use the display (instead of the view hole) and then you are able to zoom. It took us a little while to discover this.

"Nice for 1st time users or beginners" 2008-04-23
By Cynthia L. Schultz (Wisconsin, USA)
I bought the Kodak CX7300 about maybe 5 yrs ago and it is great for first time buyers and if you do not want to capture action shots. The pictures turn out great if you are close up to a subject or outside. Action shots don't come out very well because of the slow shutter speed and the zoom is very grainy when picture is developed. It also takes too long in between shots. Overall a good first timers camera.

"You get what you pay for" 2010-03-09
By Erika Fradella (ALBANY, OREGON, US)
Unless you are needing an extremely basic camera that takes pretty poor quality photos, I would not recommend buying this product. I've only had it about 7 months and am already considering tossing it in the trash. The pictures, even when taken in the higher megapixels, come out really blurry and the coloring is drab. It takes semi-decent movies, but when you try to zoom in, it makes a clicking noise which is heard when you re-play the movie. The symbols on the actual camera, such as the trash bin, have smudged off and began doing so the first time I used the camera. Overall, this is not a very good quality camera.

 "Poor zoom quality" 2009-10-02
By Judith Taylor
This camera is small, easy to carry and good for regular normal pictures. Video and sound does work well. The zoom resolution breaks down to large square pixels without clarity or definition. I lost valuable video events because of using the zoom option. Even at the highest pixel resolution you couldn't see what you were shooting. Zoom still shots are totally distorted. If you want normal pics this camera will work. i'd never buy it again.

 "Fantastic point and shoot" 2009-09-09
By slugduck (Portland Oregon)
I bought this camera for my wife who is not good with gagetry, but she wanted to start taking pictures. It has been a fantastic camera for her. It is not complicated. It seems to take great pictures on any setting. And best of all my wife uses it all the time. It's so compact she just carries it in her purse where ever she goes. I've taken pictures with it too and it is just first rate. We liked it so much we bought a second just to have so when this one finally falls apart we have a back up. The software is easy to use too. It pretty much downloads your pics without you doing much of anything except plugging in the cord to your computer.

I have two of these cameras, one for use while on the jobsite and one for personal use. The best feature for me is the rechargeable battery. Having to fumble around looking for new batteries has always been a hassle for me. With this camera, I just plug it in at the end of the day, and its ready to go in the morning. The picture quality is great and the Kodak Easy Share software is a breeze to use when you want to store images on your computer. Overall I think this is a fantastic basic camera with some very useful features that anyone can use. The size is perfect for travel and in your shirt pocket at work. Great camera!!

 "Nothing but disappointment" 2010-05-12
By Curtis Vinson (Bothell, washington United States)
The V1003 is my third Kodak camera. The first two went to our children. The picture quality was good only in bright light situations. The flash did not provide adequate light indoors. I resorted to taking pictures indoors without the flash for better results. Blurring and grainy pictures led me to Kodak for help. They were useful in assisting me in syncing my flash to the camera but results were only slightly better. I really lost the fun in point and shoot picture taking because this camera always disappointed.

"Sweet little camera for unprofessionals" 2010-03-24
By LulzLaura
Okay I've had this camera for about two or three years. The reason why I got it was because of the colors it came in. But someone ended up giving it to me as a gift in BLACK anyway.

All in all, I like this camera. It's my second digital camera since the 90s, and yeah it's a huge step up. I've dented the outside, majority of the print and stickers have worn themselves off, and I've dropped it on more than one occasion and it's held up. And it's small enough to fit in my jeans pocket, down my shirt or just throw in my purse.

What I like about it, is the ease of picking settings. When you're at a concert, down in the pits somewhere with general admission, you don't have time to fuss around with turning wheels or going through menus. This camera is exceedingly easy to switch between different modes. You press one button, and you have a screen full of options from portrait, low light, custom settings, etc. So you pick one, take a quick pic, look at the result...not good enough? Go ahead and switch it. You don't have to go in and out of menus while the crowd is pushing you from every which way, it's just super fast to find a setting you want.

Also you don't need a degree to use it. It pretty much just has ONE button to take photos or record a video. Not rocket science, I'm sure anyone would get the hang of it.

But it does have it's down sides. The time it takes to take a photo is a bit long. I mean if you're handing this off to a friend to take a pic for you, make sure you TELL them to hold onto it because you can't just press the button and expect it to immediately take the photo. They'll try to give it back to you and you're left with some super blur.

And now that I've gotten into product photography though to sell things off my website this camera has been quite frustrating! It is such an adventure getting it to focus. And yes, like other reviewers say, it tends to go click.click.click randomly loud enough to be heard on the video mode. At first I thought I broke it! Recently I've switched it manual focus instead of auto and I haven't seen much of a difference.

All in all, it's durable, it's cool maybe if you are a teenager or in the market for your FIRST digital camera for it's ease of use, but if you want to get professional with it, you'll probably throw it out the window.

By Looking for the Perfect Item (Alaska)
The day I got this camera I took a lot of pictures and it worked nice but they were kinda blury and did not do well with movement in the picture! As time went by I realized that this camera really sucked! After a year the battery would not stay charged so my reaction was that the battery just needed to be replaced so I ordered a new battery! But it still would not charge more than 1 bar! Finally a month after I replaced the battery it refused to work unless it was plugged in! ITS A PIECE OF TRASH!

 "Nice Image Quality" 2010-01-09
By T. Lin (Calif USA)
Bought this camera as my spare. It works well and very portable. It takes the auto focus longer than usual to focus. So if you need quick shot, you may end up with a blurry one. Every Kodak is different. I have seen other Kodak auto focusing instantly. This V1003 takes too long to focus.

One thing I must say is Kodak should protect this camera LCD display with another hardened glass. I see many cases of broken LCD and you know when that happens, you might as well get another one.

This is remarkably easy to use, has a plethora of features that enable them to take profoundly clear and fun pictures. My budding photographers use this camera to chronicle their everyday lives as well as find the beauty in the world around them. Good choice, pleased with the product as a whole. Only regret is there is no second set of batteries, secondary power source, etc. they use up the charge on this one routinely.

 "Horribly Grainy" 2010-01-10
By flowthrough (USA)
I bought the first Kodak series digital cameras in the 1990's - when they were only 1 megapixel.

(Have used Film SLRs previous to that- and owned a few digital cameras since)- just to preface this review with my experience level.

Stay away from this camera. It gives horribly grainy photo results- and generates jpeg file sizes that are half the size of my Canon S550 (which is only 5 megapixels- yes file sizes vary based on subject matter- but not by a factor of HALF the size- when the megapixels are much greater). Went through the manual- online help, and phoned Kodak. Confirmed manual quality settings for sharpness, High color, ISO, 8.1 megapixel, and aspect ratio- and still.. marginal/poor image quality. Confirmed- it is not a lighting issue either.

You'd think an 8.1 megapixel camera from Kodak would yield good photos. Well.. think again. I wish I bought something else and didn't waste precious memories with this crummy camera.

"Great Pictures Even By 2010 Standards" 2010-05-30
By Barclay Hinson (NE Georgia)
Very rarely do I like a product enough to take time to write a review, but my old friend the Kodak DX4530 deserves some love.

I bought this camera "like new" in its original packaging at a local pawn shop in 2004 - about a year after it hit the market with a $400 list price. This camera was made before you could buy a 10 MP camera new for $75. I paid $75 for it used and it has proven to be money well spent. It is our "go to" camera for point and shoot use.

Every family gathering we attend, this 5 MP camera routinely outperforms newer model cameras with larger file size capabilities. The sister in-laws with 8 and 10 MP cameras are perplexed by their cameras inferiority to the DX4530 and always ask how we take such great photos.

One cool feature this camera possesses is that it actually has a viewfinder (you know, the little glass window folks used to peer through for a preview of their shot) in addition to an LCD screen. I am not aware of any point and shoot digital cameras made with a viewfinder now. The viewfinder is good for two reasons - (1) it allows you to save money on batteries by disabling the "live view" LCD screen, and (2) it reduces camera shake when you press it against your face to take a photo.

I really don't have a problem with the lens cap and "bulk" I have read others complaining about. Compared to the 35mm's I grew up with this thing is tiny.

This camera has been a real workhorse over the last 6 years. If you can find a used one in good condition I would jump on it. It will take photographs comparable with many of today's point and shoot digitals.

 "Simply an Excellent Camera" 2009-12-10
By Ricky Willems
I bought this camera 5 years ago during a Black Friday sale for $140, and its best some of the best money I've ever spent on any piece of electronics. Rarely is a tech product good enough to remain useful nearly 7 years after its debut, but I still use this camera all the time.

The camera takes beautiful shots, especially outdoors. The optical zoom is great, and always provides a clear picture when employed. The flash is good, though you do need to be careful about redeye. The facial recognition software is great, and for the time this camera was made, was absolutely fantastic. The image stabilizer is really great as well. It was one of the first camera's Id used that let you focus by holding the shoot button down half way, letting you take instant shots with no delay. (If you dont realize this, your shots will take forever, and will always end up blurry, I think many buyers dont realize this).

5MP is more than enough for most people, I end up shrinking down most of my photos anyway. A few people mentioned interior photos are too dark, but if you give the camera a second or two to adjust, or manually change settings, Ive had no problems at all.

The camera is exceptionally durable. After my friend crammed a broken SD card in the slot, the sd reader rarely works, but I can't blame that on the camera. It spends most of its time getting crushed under text books while my backpack is being thrown around, and the though the plastic cover for the LCD screen recently cracked (the screen is still 100%) Ive never had any problems whatsoever.

The only downsides are only a few downsides. This is a large camera. Though not oversized for the time, modern consumers will find the camera very bulky and a bit heavy. It's comfortable in a pants pocket, but its the only thing you'll be putting in that pants pocket.

The other big downside is the battery. While it claims AA batteries are usable, they really aren't. You need to buy http://www.amazon.com/Kodak-MAX-CRV3-Lithium-Battery/dp/B0000632T3 or equivalent. When I first bought the camera, these were expensive, which was a major downside. Now however, they're only about twice the price of 2 double A's for the Duracell brand, and they last a for a long long time. I can count on my fingers how many times Ive changed the battery in 5 years. I dont have any experience with rechargeables on this camera.

The only other improvement I can imagine is allowing longer video clips. Each video clip is limited to 60 seconds. This is enough to make it useful, but it would be great to be able to record for hours to an big SD card. You also cant zoom in or out whithout stopping your video shot and starting again.

Overall a great camera. If you happen to come across one I'd still recommend it against most new cameras for the price. The camera feels more like a film camera than a digital camera, and this could be nice for not so tech savvy people.

 "I've hated this camera for 4 years ..." 2008-12-18
By razberiswrl (South Jersey USA)
I just bought a new camera today, and while linking this page to show the old one to some internet friends, I figured I might as well review it ...

Man, I am SO glad to be rid of this thing. I mean, sure, it takes satisfactory pictures, I love the docking station, and it's lasted this long (and is still in decent shape), so I guess my dislikes are just a matter of being picky. Anyway, I hate the d-pad control on this model. I thought I hated d-pads in general, but I have realized that it's THIS d-pad that I hate. It really sucks. And it's about shot after 4 years of use. I hate that it has a lens cap instead of the lens that automatically shutters itself. I hate that it's so bulky. It has terrible hand-feel, it's difficult not to stick your fingers into the shot. I hate how long it takes between the time you push the button and the time it actually takes the picture. I hate that you can't do any editing through the camera (I had a sony previously, and you can crop, take pics in sepia, black and white, etc, you can brighten, etc, etc, right ON THE CAMERA). And I hate that the editing software sucks so bad (am fully aware I could use something else, and I readily admit that I do not know how). I hate that it takes TERRIBLE close-ups even in close-up mode (I know you love the highly technical terms I use). I hate that my mother-in-law's cat knocked my sony off the top of her entertainment unit 4 years ago, and THIS is what she replaced it with as my xmas present.

I just really hate this camera.

It works though. I guess that's something ...

"Good Camera but....... 4gb sd card does not work" 2008-06-15
By Yankees Fan
This is my first camera, bought it on Black Friday of 2003 for $299 (included a free 128mb card)

I've taken over 6000 pictures with this cam, a majority of them are good. However, nighttime pictures do not come out very well.

Since then, I've bought a 256mb card, upgraded to a 1gb.. Yesterday bought a 4gb Transcend card and it did not work :(

Checked the Kodak site, found no firmware upgrade available, stuck with firmware v1.000

Even though this is an older model that is no longer sold new, this is my second one. It's a great camera with good features. Best to buy an extra memory card since the internal memory is limited.

 "Horribly grainy" 2010-04-12
By Kaitlyn (Massachusetts)
This is the worst camera I have ever owned. After a month of having it, the firmware got damaged and had to send it back. Upon getting it returned, the pictures were worse than before. No matter where you take your pictures, they will always be grainy. It is very poor in low light conditions, and even worse in daylight.

I do not recommend this camera at all.

I just purchased the Kodak M863 digital camera and I couldn't be happier with it. It is easy to use and takes very good pictures. I have one very small problems with the camera. The user manual could have a been a little more informative. Not to worry though, you can get all the information you need on Kodak's web site. They also have a great support team . They can be contacted via the telephone and you actually get a real person to answer all your questions. This is a great little camera and for the price you can't beat it. Buy with confidence.

"Very good 10% of the time, very bad 90% of the time" 2010-03-07
By 150 F3
I love this camera. It has given me many great treasures of beautiful photography.

The M753 is meant for sunny days. I love how clear and colorful my ISO 80 photos turn out. I use EV -0.3 and low color, then make minor adjustments later to saturate, reduce noise, and correct levels. It's a wonderful camera when you know its strengths.

Thanks to another reviewer, I tried Fireworks scene mode for night photography. My photos were clear, colorful, and pleasing. The camera focused on street light lens flare in night landscape mode, so more than half my shots were badly out of focus. Fireworks mode (with a tripod and the 2 second delay) was the answer.

Panoramas require a tripod and careful alignment. When you do them handheld, the 10 second delay between shots and the long delay after pressing the shutter button lead to obvious seams and totally unaligned photos. I like how the tripod mount is directly below the lens so I can rotate the camera on the screw for the best alignment.

Black and whites in overcast daylight are lovely. The silvery world of soft shadows and reflecting puddles is very beautiful. It helps to let more light in in overcast conditions. EV +0.3 does the trick. EV +0.7 is wonderful for objects silhouetted against white skies. Black and white does not work well in sunlight, so I just shoot in low color at EV -0.3 and convert later.

I use 3 megapixel mode to reduce noise. I've used an M753 for 2 years and am delighted with how well it performs. My affection for the camera has steadily grown over time. Never had a problem with purple fringing.

Once or twice a month the lens fails to retract when powered down. I just cycle power and it corrects itself. I'm pleased with lens reliability. The recessed power switch button is thoughtfully designed and very reliable.

I don't like the self timer feature. It has to be selected every time, so I have to bring up the menu and deal with the interface dozens of times when I just want to make a series of clear macros with the tripod. Kodak should just leave the self timer on like Canon and go back to normal shooting mode when the camera is turned off and on again.

Picture quality is compromised and generally unspectacular, but the small size and light weight more than make up for it. I think photography is more rewarding when you learn equipment weaknesses and overcome them. I think of the M753 as a very, very good toy camera. It's capable of dazzling photographic brilliance in the right light. I learned a lot about photography by seeing good and bad M753 results and understanding how I could improve my success rate. It's fun to playfully experiment with extreme settings and intentionally get wrong looking photos. Doing it wrong helps you learn how to get it right when it counts.

I can't recommend this model for everyone. It won't appeal to perfectionists. It's really noisy in low light and high ISOs, but the answer to those problems is using a tripod, adding light, and using black and white to at least eliminate chroma noise.

The video mode is terrible. Blocky and unpleasant. Harsh light cannot be exposed properly. Audio has a constant high pitched whine that's impossible to digitally filter out later. Pathetic!

But if you like walking around, taking clear still pictures of colorful things in sunshine, and know about basic camera adjustments (white balance, ISO, saturation, and exposure compensation), the M753 is a fun camera for casual use. It's pretty amazing to draw out full, vibrant color from my low color photos. Its pictures are very lovely on the web.

Try using the lens at midrange. 64mm is very clear and impressive, with lovely foreground clarity and smooth bokeh of distant scenery. Full wide angle and full telephoto are good, but the middle focal lengths are very good.

I feel no regrets about choosing this camera. The only things I'd change would be a Canon style self timer interface and less pixel density. 3 or 4 megapixels would be ideal. With 7, you're just recording random noise and superfluous detail.

So, a mixed review, but those 3 stars are respectfully given. I really got more than my money's worth out of this handy camera. It enhanced my life and offered many wonderful experiences of enjoyment and creativity.

 "Not what I expected" 2009-01-17
By Nichelle (Fort Ann, NY)
This was used (which I knew), and it's in great condition. However, the person/place selling it never stated whether it did or didn't come with a battery, charger or charger cord and a memory card. It was used not brand new, wouldn't you expect it to come with everything. I did and was disappointed. It was still less than purchasing a brand new one, that was my goal.

 "Kodak EasyShare m753" 2009-01-01
By J. Sullivan (Austin, TX)
I am very unhappy with this camera. For the first few weeks/months, it took pretty good pictures and acted like the easy and cheap point and shoot we needed. After less than 6 months of use though, about 80% of the pictures turn out to be terrible. It acts like it forgot how to focus.

The one saving grace for me on this one is that it takes really good video for a camera this size/price. I think it's listed as 12 or 15 fps but it really impressed me with it's quality and ability to pick up sound. Not enough to give it another star though. For most practical intents and purposes, this camera is a piece of junk.
