 "this is horrible." 2009-12-26
By David Karson
this is a horrible camera. i got it for christmas a few years ago, and it worked fine, but now it has many problems. when i turn it on, the shutter cover doesnt open fully, and i have to slide it back with my finger. earlier today, after charging the batteries for five hours, i turned it on once and it worked okay. but then i tried to turn it on again, and it completely locked up. there is also something that rattles inside it when the batteries are taken out. i am fed up with this camera.

"Great camera for the price = great value" 2009-12-02
By J. Kim (southern california)
Kodak from my prior 35mm popup design, and digital 2mb without a zoom lens, has always surprised me with some great quality photos with its lens, in all lighting situations including video options. There has always been a stickler with Kodak digital cameras, and not 35 mm, about its drainage of batteries while the co. was pushing for docking stations for its cameras with some patent issues with other co. However, I think over time, the NiMh batteries that excelled, much like in the Darwinian context, have been able to fill this void with Maxells first, followed by Duracells which doesn't drain in the Kodak cameras over long length of time vs. other rechargeables which only lasted 1-2 days in the camera. Once this problem was fixed after reading the other review suggestions, I'm glad I purchased this camera. The frame is plastic, so lighter, which made me question its durability. However, with its small size, one would always be careful anyway. Its lens is not so fragile as a Canon digital which went black with mere bump that all other digital cameras endure. The shuttle over the zoom lens was a concern when I read someone selling one with that problem, but if you're a photographer who doesn't necessarily depend on a zoom lens for a great shot on an excessive level, than I don't find it to be much of a concern before purchasing this product after comparative research of what else is on the market. With great lens, great durability, with added features including a stereo for videos albeit small, it's great for the value for what you would purchase such a small digi camera for -- it's far superior to anything on a PDA or cell phone, and it fits so well inside any purse or bag, and battery is there to be ready for any shot on any day, which you can't definitely get from a large 35mm or DSLR in a big bag that needs careful shot planning with a tripod. I love the Kodak lens, but have a Canon for professional tripod shots which Kodak will obviously not be able to cover in a small design with options for fast speed, races, and etc., but it does what it does in the top of its product line.

 "great camera" 2009-10-29
By B. Stephan (Grand Rapids, MI USA)
I bought the Kodak EasyShare C533 as a bundle with the series 3 dock three years ago and have really enjoyed the use of both (wore out my first dock, got a second from e-bay). This 'snapshot' camera takes better pictures than my $$$$.00 Canon SLR print camera. Took both to Africa this past summer and never bothered using the Canon SLR. Used 8 1/2" X 11" photo paper to blow up some photos on my HP printer and they look great. So far I'm still using the rechargable battery that came with the unit and carry 'disposable' (responsibly) batteries on trips as back-up. About batteries, unfortunately, most people do not understand the proper care for different rechargable batteries leading to premature failure. This camera does not appear able to handle more than a 2 gig SD card, but that's OK, I don't do video and cannot imagine a situation where I'd fill this thing up (and I carry a second SD card). Picture recovery time can cause some aggrevation and I am not experienced with other digital cameras (other than a previous dig cam so complicated and frustrating that I gave it away) to evaluate this against other models. Occasionaly the camera doesn't want to turn on and much playing with the on/off switch is necessary to get it up and running. I'm no techy and this camera has served me well with minimum frustration and much satisfaction so it's great with me.

I think this camera is great! For a point & shoot, it is really awesome. The zoom is great, the LCD screen is bright & vibrant, it takes really bright & clear pictures. It's easy to use too. The buttons are a little tiny, but it's not that bad. It has macro & landscape settings on it, which work great. You can change the ISO setting. The camera has a lot of features & functions, I really like it.

 "Good Basic Camera" 2009-01-13

Camera is a good basic camera, good to learn how to use digital camera but can not withstand wear and tear. I've had it for two years and the usb port doesn't work. Camera does not zoom well and it lags between pictures. Takes decent video and pictures. Definitely not for the experienced user or the scrapbooker who totes their camera everywhere!!!

This is my first digital camera. I love the idea of being able to view the pictures immediately. This camera is very easy to use. Using the video option is fun but the speakers are poor quality. I can't hear the audio when I've made a video. I hope this information is helpful if you are thinking of purchasing the Kodak EasyShare M753.

 "Bad quality" 2008-11-22
By Carrie Bracco
I bought this camera for my mom, I had an older DX and it worked great and very easy to use. We liked the Easyshare features, since Mom was not computer savvy. Pictures were good for the price, but the USB cable stopped charging, so we bought a new one. Did not work. Then the camera just would not turn on, we bought a new battery, but it still does not work. I am stuck with two batteries and two USB cables and no camera!

Not the best camera on the market, but good enough. Bought this for my mother as a Christmas present and she loves it. She said she dropped it once, but no damaged occured.

Not something I'd ever buy for myself, but if you just want something for random pictures, it works.

 "Poor Quality" 2008-07-05
By Mick Family (Fort Lewis, WA)
I "upgraded" to this camera and regret it. I love the fact that you can charge it with a USB cable, and dont have to worry with batteries. But, after having it for less than a year, the only thing the USB cable does for me is charge it -- it no longer works for uploading photos to the computer. Luckily we have a laptop and I can just take my memory card out and put it in the laptop to upload them.

The photo quality is no good. It is very grainy no matter what ISO or flash settings you use. Also, when I take pictures with it, it makes the sound like the picture was taken, but it pauses for a second or two and THEN it actually takes the picture?! It has done that several times, and ruined several shots.

This camera is not worth $150 and I would not recommend it to anyone, ever. It's cheaply made and does not take good photos.

I have had this camera for several years, I too have Nikon D70 and a Canon EOS KISS X2. I use this camera for Macro photography with a $30 OPTEKA 10X Macro lens,a steady tripod and a $90 flash light with a diffuser.

You can see some of my pictures in the customers pictures. I have save several hundreds or thousands of dollars buying macro lens for my cameras. I can take this camera anywhere I go, the pictures quality is very good if you use only the optical zoom and get pass the tunnel vision of the OPTEKA lens adaptor.

"Still working great after two years" 2010-02-05
By JW (California)
This camera is my third digital camera and now is a little outdated because of the 12 megapixel and beyond cameras but it works great and always has. This camera goes EVERYWHERE with us and takes TONS of pictures. Get some extra batteries because this thing is a battery HOG and an SD card. Also, if I leave batteries in the camera when not in use, it drains them very quickly. Not sure why.

"Simple for the simple and complex for the complex..." 2010-01-04
By J. Muckle
I bought this camera my senior year or high school, right before my senior trip. I needed a camera that was a little more than just a point and shoot cause at that time I was wanting to get a little more into photography. I could not afford a DSLR so I did a bunch of research in the Ultrazoom camera market. I found this one to be the best value for the price. It takes wonderful pictures under the "automatic" setting, which would satisfy the average person wanting to get good picture with a good zoom with good megapixels. But at the same time you can dig a little deeper with the manual settings and unlock a whole new world of photography. I have yet to figure out all of the settings and such since I am just happy taking good pictures under the simple pre-rendered settings that come with the camera. The image stabilization options are great too, which help take even greater pictures. If you are just thinking about getting into photography and are not sure about your commitment to the art, I would recommend this camera as a good companion!

"flash broke, camera no good- less than 2 yrs old" 2009-12-26
By KL (NC)
I bought this camera after Christmas nearly 2 years ago. The colors are pretty good, and the only problem I have had until recently is low-lighting- pictures are not so good with low light, too much noise for me. Recently I have not been able to get the flash to work. I emailed Kodak, and they gave me a number to call. When I called and explained the problem, it was going to cost $!00 to fix it. I only paid a little over $200 for the camera. It is now on Craig's list and I am looking for a replacement...

"Excellent camera, even better price" 2009-12-18
By Thomas (Houston, Tx)
Kodak cameras are an incredible value and this one is no exception. I have never ever taken a single bad picture with it in the several years that I've owned it, and the 12x zoom is a wonderful addition (good enough zoom to take great shots of bears in Yellowstone). Color quality and focus on this one is perfect every time and the image stabilization helps insure that there is no blur. It does go thru regular AA batteries quickly, so you should order the rechargeable ones and a charger from Kodak. With the rechargeable kodak batteries, the battery life is excellent and it's nice to be able to swap in a regular AA's in a pinch if you run down the rechargeables and forgot to bring your charger. The ability to shoot HD video is also a nice bonus at this price point and works well.

 "proven by time" 2010-03-19
By Gerald Adam Labay
I purchased the DX6490 because it is one of but a few budget-priced cameras that supports a lense adapter. My cousin has made every excuse not to reproduce a family portrait under glass and it became obvious that at least a polarizing filter was needed. The DX6490, with the rare lense adapter and requisite filter kit, has proven to be an excellent machine to photograph the difficult subject of portraits under glass. Glare is virtually eliminated and the quality is quite acceptable. The unit is used, but still the batteries hold a respectable charge. The only drawback is Kodak's diabolical multifunction power, etc. rotary switch that demands a fair amount of dexterity to operate.

"Will NEVER regret buying this camera used on eBay last year!" 2010-03-08
By Ellie S. (Central Maine)
I've had many cameras, both film and digital, and this one by far blows the others out of the water! A friend of mine bought a 6490 new a few years ago and raved about it - her photos were so amazing. So last year when I was in the market to buy a camera, I looked it up on Amazon. I was so glad to see that not only did they include the camera specs, tons of user reviews, and even a couple for sale used through the Marketplace, but also over 100 photos taken by other owners that I got to appreciate! That convinced me to find and buy one used on eBay, which I did. I was lucky, the camera was in excellent condition and have had no trouble with it.

It may be an older model, but the operation of this camera is so simple compared with the new ones out on the market today! I had use of a 10MP Canon camera for a while thinking I might want to upgrade this one, but it took way too long to figure out the controls which were tiny, and after reading the manual and taking many, many photos over the course of several days using various settings, the photos were often blurry, even with image stabilization built in! I found I didn't need the extra pixels after all, and I think they actually slowed down the camera's operation.

I do love how the 6490 feels in my hands, too - not too big, not too small (like the Canon). Most of all I appreciate the fact that I don't feel the need to "upgrade" as long as I keep getting this kind of stellar quality in my photos!! Sure wish it used AA batteries, though - that's the only drawback to this camera that I can see!

 "Great Camera" 2010-01-24
By Rick Nelson (Northwest Ohio)
I haven't had this camera very long, but am very impressed with it. As a retired professional photographer, my standards are pretty high, and this puppy with its Schneider lens takes fantastic detail. Shot a picture of my dog's face at full optical telephoto, and every hair is sharp. Commenting on some of the criticisms of this camera. Telephoto is 380mm equiv. If you don 't have it on a tripod it won't be sharp. True of all long teles on all cameras, including those with OIS. Dark pictures inside. Haven't had a problem. Since this is one of the very few prosumer cameras that will take an add-on flash, if I need light, I'll put my big Vivitar 283 on it and can light up a gym. Dinky built in flash on any camera is strictly for close (under 4 meters) shooting. Delay in shooting after pressing shutter button - true of every digital camera. To get sharp pictures turn off the digital zoom. It's a gimmick on all cameras. Comparing this camera with Nikons and other digital prosumer cameras I have owned, the Kodak DZ6490 wins hands down. At under a $100 used its an incredible buy.

Great Camera. You won't be disappointed! I bought this camera new years ago. I still have it and I am thinking about buying a second as a spare. The video is kinda small but the pictures are incredible. I have sent some pictures in and had them blown up. They looked so good I could not believe it was a digital camera. This camera once sold for $600.00. The dock works great also. Kodak keeps its software updated. I just downloaded the newest update yesterday.
