"Do not buy this camera" 2010-01-09
By FrothyFroth (Atlanta, GA)
I won this camera. It does not come with a memory disk. It worked great for about two months after I bought a chip. I took many pictures and the picture quality was excellent. What is wrong with this camera? It is now a paper weight as it will no longer turn on. I did nothing to cause it to malfunction. It is just cheaply made in China. You hit the on-off button and the lens comes out and immediately goes back in, and the mode dial begs to be broken off, and doesn't want to stay in the mode selected. I am on Amazon today to buy a Canon. My wife has had a Canon for 5 years that has worked flawlessly. I compared it to this camera, and the difference in construction quality glares at you. The Kodak is cheaply made and is not built to last. It is no more than an expensive throw-away camera.

"I really wanted to like this camera..." 2010-01-05

This camera was rated as a "Best Buy" in a well-respected consumer magazine.

After just a few hours of use, I returned it and purchased a different brand camera.

My three major complaints:

- Picture "barreling" distortion

- Software

- USB connector

Pictures showed excessive "barrel" distortion in the image. That is to say, straight lines appear curved. This was most apparent in the image periphery. I'm really disappointed that the consumer reporting magazine did not acknowledge this characteristic.

Per the directions, I loaded the included Easy share software on my PC. Apparently this is necessary for transferring pics from the camera to the computer. I never could get it to work right. (Granted, this was not a camera issue, per se.) My previous camera (Olympus) was a "plug & play" affair which acted pretty much like another hard drive on my computer with no additional software required.

The USB cable connector was a very tight fit into the camera socket. When removing the cable, I would have to wiggle and pull to disconnect the cable. Maybe it just needed to be "broken-in" but I'm certain that after a few connects and disconnects, it would just be "broken."

I probably could have lived with any one of these quirks but the combination of all three, added up to a disappointing purchase. I returned the camera for a refund.

 "Horrible Software" 2010-01-01
By K. Wenarsky (Northeast)
This is a great camera for the price. HOWEVER, the software itself is horrendous. It crashes, freezes, ignores the camera when you're trying to download the photos. Both my daughter and I have this camera and I've loaded the software on both our regular PC and laptop, and done the upgrades online, and it still doesn't help. Sometimes you have to restart the camera five or six times before the software will recognize it. The camera itself is nice, but Kodak REALLY bombed on the software with it!

 "Great camera!" 2010-01-18
By Jeff Smith
I purchased this camera for $99.99 during this past Cyber-Monday weekend. I have used this camera at a recent party. This camera has a lot of features. The video playback is excellent. The only flaw is the battery power. It comes with a lithium battery, and it didn't last long. Also, the camera does not use regular alkaline batteries. You need to get KLIC-8000 rechargeable batteries. Other than that, this camera is a lot more than what i paid for.

 "Died after 2 weeks" 2010-01-14

I should have known better after reading the mixed reviews, but bought this camera and it died after 2 weeks. Unfortunately there aren't many kodak models left that work with the dock I already own, or the $20 battery I bought for this one. Kodak support sounded like a callcenter you know where, no opportunities for advance replacement of an obviously defective item. Thanks a lot kodak.

 "Kodak Z1485 IS 14mp Digital Camera" 2010-01-12
By Ken Blkaney (Oklahoma City)
The Camera is a Z1485 IS (the IS means image stabilization) - I purchased the blue one and I like it. This camera fits just fine in my shirt pocket and it feels good in my hand too - the lens sticks out 3/8" with the camera turned off and the lens sticks out 1¼" with the camera turned on (all of the pictures that I had previously seen of this camera were shown with the camera turned on and with the lens extended out) - compared to my older Kodak C643 the overall dimensions are about the same - my older C643 has a real viewfinder but this Z1485 IS uses the screen for a viewfinder - However the brighter screen can be seen just fine in the bright sunlight if I am wearing sunglasses - loading a battery or SD card is easy - the

?KLIC-8000 battery is fool proof, it only fits and goes in one-way and I like that because i can easily change the battery in the dark -the battery sort of has an appearance of two AA batteries molded together - Just a few seconds before the battery completely dies, the camera lens automatically retracts and the camera automatically turns itself off - - a panoramic picture is easy to do and looks good and I like that too - the user's guide that came with the camera seems easy enough to understand but this camera's operation is very much like my older Kodak C643 so it was an easy transition for me - This is a powerful little camera that will give you control over your picture taking but for a point-and-shoot novice like me, I just leave it in the smart capture mode and it takes fantastic pictures without any of my help. It also takes a very good picture in very low light conditions and I was pleasantly surprised and I am very pleased with that.

Software = the camera comes with a USB cord and an Easyshare CD for either PC or Mac - I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger and the installation was easy - the pictures and videos are fantastic

Battery = the camera comes with a throw-away battery CRV3 but I bought two Kodak ?KLIC-8000 Li-Ion rechargeable batteries (one is for a back-up spare) and I bought the Kodak K7600-C Li-Ion Universal AC/DC Battery Charger - you can recharge at home or office or in your car - I only use a camera twice a year on vacations and Kodak Tech Support recommended to store these batteries in a discharged state -The K7600-C recharges one battery at a time and it takes exactly 4 hours to recharge a completely dead ?KLIC-8000 battery - I can video in the HD mode for 93 minutes on one battery charge (approximately 1½ hours) - While HD Videoing, I used up six 2GB SD Cards before the battery finally died - I don't know how many still pictures can be taken on one battery charge but I suspect probably more pictures than a normal person would want to take (probably many hundreds) -

Video = you can zoom in and zoom out while you are videoing and the camera chimes when the SD Card is full and I like that too -

SD Cards - With the camera set in the 14.2mp mode, my 2GB cards each yield a total of 456 pictures or 17 minutes of HD video, either/or a combination of both, the more pictures the less video, the less video then more pictures - I have 4 of the older Kodak brand SD Cards that I used in my older Kodak C643 - all of my SD Cards are 2GB - One is a plain Kodak SD card - One is a plain Kodak SD High Performance card - and Two are Kodak SD High Speed 60X cards - They all seem to work just fine with 14.2mp stills or HD video - Kodak recommends that if you are using a different brand of SD Card other than Kodak then you should use at least a class 6 SD card - I plan to purchase Kodak 8GB 60x SD cards so I can do HD video for 1 hour on 1 card

HD Video 1200x720 uses up much more computer hard drive space than the old 640x480 video. Depending on how much video you want to record and upload, make sure you have plenty of hard drive space on your computer for your HD videos. In rough numbers, a one hour HD Video takes up 8GB of hard drive to upload into my Kodak Easyshare program, then it takes another 8GB to import that file into my iMovie program for editing, and then some more GBs for editing my iMovie project, and then it takes another 8GB to import the edited video into my iDVD program for burning to a DVD disk... It takes a total of at least 24GB of hard drive space, or a bit more, to complete a one-hour video onto a DVD disk or about 48GB for a two hour HD Video of my grandkids birthday parties. I have recently ordered a new LaCie 1TB (one trillion bit) external hard drive from amazon for $100 ... if needed, an external hard drive addition is the answer ... that's much cheaper than buying another computer with a larger hard drive ... unless you just want a newer computer and need an excuse to convince your spouse ...

I did a lot of previous researching, and I think this little Kodak Z1485 IS 14mp has it all over the other brands, dollar for dollar ... I've only had this camera for a few days now and this information is all I've got folks - I hope this has been helpful to all of you point-and-shoot camera seekers ... I have also posted some pictures of my camera, sitting next to my Dr. Pepper can, here on Amazon too ... and as of this date and time, I really like this camera and I recommend it ....

 "Great buy!" 2010-01-03

I purchased two of these camera(s) for my (9) and (10) year old for Christmas and they love them. I can't believe the beautiful pictures this inexpensive camera takes indoors and out. The video quality isn't horrible, but I have seen much better...plus there is no sound when you play back your video on the camera. However, sound is captured so when you transfer your pictures and videos to the computer, there is sound during play back. The 3.0" LCD screen is georgous, and allows you to see the true image quality immediately. Plus the camera runs off of AA batteries which is completely convenient....purchase with confidence.

 "Blurry and Bad Lighting" 2009-12-26
By H. Orenczak
I have had this camera over a year and have complained about it from the start. I should have taken it back when it was still new. No matter how I change the settings the light is too bright but if I don't use the flash everything is blurry. It gets very frustrating losing your picture opportunity with the picky-ness of this camera. When I try to do close up pictures it wont focus on the right thing. I had a chance to play around with my Moms Cannon at about the same price range and will be looking to get rid of mine. I do not like this Kodak! This camera is supposed to be a point and shoot. I have used disposable cameras and gotten better results. Finally fed up!

Found out quickly that I waisted of money. You can do much better for about $50.00 more and another brand. The picture quaity just isn't there. Not to mention the thing stopped working after 6 monthes. Did my research this year and went with a canon!

"Point & shoot pocket camera" 2009-12-07
By Joseph B. Williams (Westfield, IN USA)
The camera is of typical good quality Kodak construction. It is not as thin as I had expected, but I can still carry it in my shirt pocket. It is impossible to see what kind of picture you are taking in bright lighting conditions, but that was expected. I've only taken one set of pictures with the camera, and the exposures were darker than I expected. However, the information was all there, and simple editing allowed me to produce good clear pictures.

 "Don't waste your money" 2009-12-06
By Mom of Three
I read some of the great reviews and went to check my camera to make sure they were talking about the C913. I have had a Kodak Easyshare before and loved it, the pictures were sharp and it was easy to use. I have had the C913 for a year now and I HATE it. I have used it on many of the different settings and the pictures turn out blurry if your hand is not perfectly still. My husband even put it on the table and took a picture and it still came out blurry. The worst thing is that a lot of the pictures look clear on the viewfinder and then you transfer them to your computer and they are blurry. I have had several digital cameras in the past that I loved and they took clean, sharp pictures. I can't believe that this would be user error, as some might say. Maybe mine is defective but I will not be buying a Kodak for a while, that is for sure.

 "Good introductory camera" 2009-12-04
By McDruid (San Jose, CA, USA)
I bought this rather cheaply (seventy bucks) for a cousin in Turkey. I only had about three days to test it, but it seems like a good camera for a casual user.

Ease of use: Very Easy.

I've had a few Kodaks before and they seem to put extra effort into making them easy to use, the C913 is no exception. I would rate it as very easy to use. Most menus are only one level deep. The only time you have a submenu is for the setup menu. There are only 2 different menus available with the camera set on the "auto" setting, so you don't have to search around to find things (turning the dial to other settings, such as video, gives access to other menus with items appropriate to the setting). It takes 4 button presses, all the same button, to set the camera to no-flash from auto. It takes 3 button presses, using two buttons, to set the camera to 10 second self timer. The camera has 20 different languages built in. There are a dozen or so scene modes.

Responsiveness: Surprisingly fast.

With fresh batteries installed (included with camera): Startup to first picture (with flash) about 2.5 seconds.

Shot to shot (with flash) under a second.

Time to max zoom from standard: about 2 seconds.

It is pretty hard to measure these accurately, but these times should give you an idea. The camera likes to use the flash, and I didn't get a chance to test it without, but this is pretty good for flash shots.

Picture quality: Decent

I don't have a good technical way of measuring quality, but the shots are only OK. Close up, the hair lacks detail and faces are slightly splotchy. It doesn't have the quality you would expect from 9 Megapixels. Prints at 4x6 look fine.

Video quality is not so good, it is only 640x480, and video inside the house is pretty dark.

Pros

+ Video editing in-camera

+ When switching modes, an explanation of the mode is briefly displayed on the screen.

+ Fast

+ Easy to Use

Cons

- No sound on video playback

- LCD screen is very grainy

- Video images are poor
