 "Kodak C180" 2010-02-07
By Josie (PRINCETON, WV, US)
When I first started looking for a camera I read the reviews. It seemed the people who got this camera were very happy with it. I now know why. I'm not electronically inclined but this camera was easy to learn. That was my main fear. Taking pictures is easy and they are so crisp and clear. Transferring them to the computer is a breeze. Videos are also simple to take. I love this camera and am very glad I chose it.

"Full Featured Camera That Takes Excellent Pictures" 2010-01-09
By Mark W. Bliton
This is a great camera for a person who wants a full featured camera at a reasonable price. The 15x zoom lens is fantastic and the image stabilization is a real asset. The view finder is also a big plus for those who don't want to only rely on the LCD. It is a larger camera. If you are looking for compact camera this isn't the one for you.

 "Kodak Keeps it Cheap" 2009-08-21
By Zachary Wagner (Albuquerque, NM USA)
Well I've been using the Kodak Easyshare Z1015 IS (ridiculous name, yes) camera for a few days now, so I thought I'd put in my two... or five... cents. First thing is, when you take it out of the box, if it feels a little cheap, well don't be surprised. But is it cheap? Well, yes and no. I'll reiterate this a couple more times in this review, but the price is really good for this camera. But what everyone really wants to know is--how does it perform? The answer to that is a mixed bag.

First, the push-to-capture speed is pretty fabulous for a digital camera. Meaning that you've got less of a chance to miss that perfect shot. But what if a MORE perfect shot comes along oh... in the next 2-3 seconds or so? Well too bad. Because the processing/saving to memory time of this camera isn't great. Yes, I've got the latest firmware update (which it came with, but I checked anyway), and I have a class 4 SDHC card, so it's no slouch. However, the speed did prompt me to order a class 6 card in hopes that will help my cause of taking more than two pictures in ten seconds. Of course, there's always the burst feature... which isn't all that quick, either.

So there's some bad for ya, how about some good? Well, this camera, generally, takes great photos. With the thing in one of the manual-oriented modes, jpg on fine and sharpness enabled, wow, very nice pics from a camera with this price tag. What else? Well Kodak just upped the ante with their Z980 with the 24x zoom (for $100 more), but the 15x zoom this baby sports is still really, really nice. What about the focus when you get in that close? Again, and unfortunately, the answer is it's a mixed bag.

Yes, the manual mode is great for a point and shoot, and it does allow you to manually focus... sort of. Meaning that if you can get it to basically focus in on your subject, then you can refine the focus and make the pic come out better. But the manual focus is very, very basic. Those expecting to use this as some sort of replacement for a more expensive DSLR camera... think again. But then again, you're never going to get the manual focus capabilities from a point and shoot that you get from a DSLR. Period. So in a way, you can't fault Kodak for giving it their all.

The wide angle is nice, but I wish it were wider (the Z980 takes it to 26mm, this one clocks in at 28mm)

The battery life is respectable, especially for the zoom you get, but I wish they would have included a separate charger so you didn't have to charge the battery IN the camera (I already ordered one).

Another thing? For this price you get an HD camcorder (it can zoom while filming). Yes, the quality isn't the best, but it's still in high resolution, and better than any other digital camera movie mode I've ever used... and it's still CHEAP. Forget buying that HD camcorder (I'm selling mine now), and just use this.

The bottom line:

For the beginner to intermediate photographer, this thing is going to take care of almost, if not all, of your needs. Beyond intermediate, you have to start considering the compromises you're going to be making for the price (but this is something anyone who has ANY photography skills should realize). This thing is CHEAP. Meaning that you could buy this just for the interim until you can afford a DSLR, and in the end really not lose much money, AND have a great point and shoot camera to use for more basic, everyday things. All in all, highly recommended.

Oh, except for FedEx. They've delivered TWO packages to me in a year and a half, and I've had issues both times. UPS? They've delivered every other package (and we're talking quite a few). How many problems? Zero.

By kcallahan47 (Jacksonville, FL United States)
I bought this camera to replace one lost while traveling. I also needed one that would work on my printerdock, which, many of the newer Kodak Easyshares won't. This one fit the bill perfectly, was slightly smaller than my previous one, and took better pictures (more MPs). While I'm sure it's not studio quality, it's a great camera for traveling when space is at a premium.

 "Blurry and Bad Lighting" 2009-12-26
By H. Orenczak
I have had this camera over a year and have complained about it from the start. I should have taken it back when it was still new. No matter how I change the settings the light is too bright but if I don't use the flash everything is blurry. It gets very frustrating losing your picture opportunity with the picky-ness of this camera. When I try to do close up pictures it wont focus on the right thing. I had a chance to play around with my Moms Cannon at about the same price range and will be looking to get rid of mine. I do not like this Kodak! This camera is supposed to be a point and shoot. I have used disposable cameras and gotten better results. Finally fed up!

Not to mention the thing stopped working after 6 monthes. Did my research this year and went with a canon!

"Great quailty pictures and video." 2010-02-17
By lwm
I bought this camera on Ebay for $66.00 and is great and takes great pictures. The video is great as well. When you look in the lcd screen you can see that the quality is not grainy. I've had this for a couple of days and it is great. Later on I will update any bad things about this camera. Great camera at an affordable price.

After using this camera I realized that it ate A LOT of battery life. I have 4 new Duracell 2650 mAh rechargeable battery and fully charged. All four batteries were consumed in less than an hour. Now I am ordering the KLIC-8000 because it is Li-ion which lasts longer than NiMh or NiCd. (According to other reviews)

If you want to buy this camera you HAVE to buy the KLIC-8000 or your batteries will not last.

 "Great color..." 2009-12-24

I bought one of these cameras for my daughter last Christmas, then my mother bought a different (more expensive) brand of camera. Although my mother's has some additional features, the color and picture clarity was much better on this camera. So, when I wanted to buy my son a camera for this Christmas, I went on-line and searched until I found one like my daughter's. Features are nice...awesome pictures are king.

"Highly versatile "Point and shoot" camera" 2009-12-06
By Connor Opie (Billings, MT USA)
I recently purchased this camera at a local retailer and all I can say is, "Wow!" I know that might sound cliche, but it is quite a surprisingly good camera for the price.

One of the best things it has is probably a gripe for those who are not skilled in photography: Manual mode. As a high-school student in a photography class, this camera is an excellent choice in comparison to the pricier $500+ DSLR cameras. It gives you the same manual features that DSLRs have, and allows you to have more "creative control" over your pictures then a regular point and shoot camera does. You can adjust shutter speed, aperture, depth of field, etc... Things you can't do with a normal camera. This, combined with the 12x zoom make it a great camera for a beginning to intermediate photographer who is in a photography class. (This camera may not take the same high-quality pictures that a $500-600 camera can, but given the price difference, it's not surprising. You can still get great photos from it.)

On that same note, this camera only saves images in .jpeg. This is good because it is a versatile file format, but it compresses the images and they often don't come out as sharp as they would if they were saved in a RAW, un-compressed image format (the format most professional photographers use). This is expected from a point-and-shoot, especially at this price, but it's just something to note for those who understand file formats and photography.

It does have auto features for those who aren't skilled at photography and just want a camera that "works". It is a bit bulky, but not ridiculously huge, and it can easily fit in the pocket of a hoodie or a hooded sweatshirt. It probably won't fit in your jeans pocket though, so consider buying a small camera bag.

I can't say much about battery life yet-- I just bought it a few hours ago. So far, the battery life's been good. It came charged out of the box, and I've been fiddling around with it for a little while and it hasn't showed any signs of dying. I expect this would change if you were taking pictures for an extended period of time (say an hour or more) being as it's LCD screen is on all the time (because it doesn't come with a viewfinder-- something that a photography student might not like at first, but they can easily adjust to live view). It comes with one lithium battery-- a Kodak CRV3-- that can be easily confused with a rechargeable battery at first glance. After looking more closely, I discovered it was indeed, not a rechargeable battery. There are rechargeable batteries out there for this camera from Kodak and some other brands (best bet would be to buy from Kodak). It also takes AA Lithium batteries (which is nice when/if you forget to charge your rechargeable batteries and you're out of town and you forgot to bring the battery charger and your camera only takes that specific rechargeable battery) which can be a bit pricey, but they often have a longer life then alkaline batteries. (The manual for this camera states that it does not use alkaline batteries.)

It also does video. I've toyed around with it a little bit, and it seems to work well. Nice high-def picture. It works much better then my $60 video camera that I got a few years ago, and it has a much better picture. Keep in mind that you might have some sound issues though, being as it's primarily a still image camera rather then a video camera. The mic on it is OK, but don't expect to hear someone across the room if they're whispering.

So if you can handle a little bit bulkier camera (reasonably bulky-- it's smaller then a dslr and slightly bigger then most average-sized point and shoots) with more features, better zoom, and no viewfinder (something that can be easily forgotten about and something you probably won't miss), then you will like this camera. For the price, you can't go wrong. Similar cameras sell for a much higher price and have similar zoom ranges, but less manual features that amateur photographers like.

 "a slightly different point-and-shoot" 2009-11-25
By R. S. Thompson (NV, United States)
note: i purchased this camera from a different vendor.

this camera is larger and more bulky than many point and shoots out there. it is because of a 12x zoom with the lens.

the camera has numerous condition modes to select from with a turn dial atop the camera along with view screen button selectors and adjustments. i, by accident, started off using one of the manual control settings which allows one to carefully adjust aperture, film speed, exposure time, and white balance. it turned out to be a good way to learn the camera.

i have found the kodak to be more fun to use and take better pictures than some smaller cameras with higher megapixel counts.

when you turn the camera on the flash mechanism automatically pops up...i would get around this by keeping my thumb on the spring loaded flash carriage when i was sure i wouldnt need it...it kept me from having to push it back down when i turned the camera off.

i dropped the camera twice. one it popped out of a moving bicycle bag onto the asphalt. the camera afterwords seemed to collect moisture behind the lens but still worked fine on cold damp days...but this went away. the second time i dropped the camera the flash didnt recover. so i am ordering a refurbished one since i have the proper batteries for the camera.

i have found battery life to be very good even with additional memory added.

i would say a good value overall..just larger than many point-and-shoots.

"Had this for over a year and it's fantastic!!" 2009-11-12
By A. Sloan (Cary, NC)
I am not a professional photographer by any means. I own my own Cheesecake company locally here in N.C. and decided that I needed to take better photos of our goods. I've never used anything better than a point and shoot that had no options to adjust the lenses or more complicated lenses for that matter.

I had to seriously study to get the hang of what I needed to do to take good photos and portraits. Now customers are asking me to take portraits for them. I even had a photographer who often takes pictures at the Governor's office ask me what type of lighting, etc that I use for the kids portraits. I just take the pictures and don't really pay attention to all of those things so I couldn't tell her what I'd done.

This camera is awesome. The photos are crisp and clear with amazing detail. I'm still learning but I can't say that have any regrets with this camera since I bought it a year ago. If you're a novice like me you may need to study some to understand what you're going to need to do to get the effects that you're looking for but it's well worth it.

I'm saving my family tons of money with professional looking photos and saving my business tons of money too. Our catalog for the Holidays has boosted our sales even in this economy. GET ONE FOLKS!! *See photos that I've taken for this camera here at this site.

"WORTHLESS BATTERY LIFE WORTHLESS CAMERA" 2010-02-04
By Ronda M. Spaulding (Indiana)
I WILL NEVER BUY A KODAK CAMERA AGAIN AFTER THS EXPERIENCE. THE BATTERY LIFE ON THIS CAMERA IS A MERE 3-5 DAYS. A FEW PICTURES, TURNED OFF, IN A DRAWER. THE NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE THE CAMERA IS DEAD AND NEEDS A FEW HOURS TO RECHARGE. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY SAME ISSUE. I BOUGHT IT NEW. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH KODAKS 'HELP' CENTER WHERE I HAD A COMPLICATED CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE OVERSEAS. THEY WERE VERY POLITE BUT COMPLETELY USELESS. I HAVE HAD THE CAMERA IN FOR REPAIR NO LESS THAN THREE TIMES. OF COURSE, IT IS RETURNED WITH ALL FUNCTIONS NORMAL. AND TRULY, THE CAMERA WORKS BEAUTIFULLY BUT IT WILL NOT STAY CHARGED MAKING IT USELESS TO ME. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A FLAW IN DESIGN AND KODAK SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE AND HONOR THAT. THEIR WEBSITE CLAIMS THAT NORMAL BATTERY LIFE SHOULD ALLOW FOR 120-550 PICTURES. I'VE NEVER GOTTEN PAST 10. INCIDENTALLY, I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA TO REPLACE MY EASYSHARE I HAVE HAD FOR PROBABLY 8 YEARS. IT STILL WORKS (BUT I WANTED MORE MEGAPIXELS) AND I ONLY CHARGE THE BATTERIES EVERY FEW MONTHS!!! I PURPOSELY BOUGHT ANOTHER EASYSHARE. BIG MISTAKE. I'VE GIVEN UP. DISGUSTED. BUYER BEWARE!

"Get yourself a GOOD camera" 2009-08-19
By J. Peterson
Hard to believe I spent $300 for this camera when it first came out over 4 years ago but at the time it was one of the better point and shoots out there and was a HUGE step up from the 2 MP Sony I had before, so when we first got it we were blown away by the photo quality. I have moved on finally to a Canon XSI and while my wife and I took about 3,000 photos with this camera in 4 years, the build quality was horrible (the side door for the memory card slot is a very cheap plastic and will break off with time) and we were constantly frustrated by the extremely slow auto focus and missing out on shots. Also the camera really struggles to take decent shots at night, you need to take several photos and have a tripod to avoid blurred images even on the night setting. Overall it was a dependable camera but I looking back on it, it could have been a lot better. Hopefully Kodak has made some improvements on their more recent point and shoot cameras.

 "Bad inside camera" 2009-08-02
By Carmelo Mangione (MILLTOWN, NJ USA)
Any indoor pictures with poor lighting especially in churchs and wedding receptions come out streaky, blurry, out of focus and dark. Very disappointed in this camera. I read the manual and it states use the Sport for in Motion pictures, however, they still come out blurry. The auto setting does the same thing. This camera is great for outdoors and indoors with plenty of lighting. The 10X zoom is good when using a tripod. The camera is also good for up close pictures with a steady hand and tripod. I would have not bought this camera if I had known about these issues.

    Great value for the money.

My only dissapointment is it doesn't have a mechanical view finder. The display washes out in sunlight and you have to guess at framing and focusing your picture.

     "All you need!" 2009-11-01
    By J WIITS (Michigan)
My daughters camera broke a few days after Christmas, so this wasn't the right time to get an expensive digital camera even though she uses it all the time. I found this one for only $70 and was worried because a review said it didn't work right from the box. And either did her's until she put the batteries in 4 different times!

We still don't know what was wrong but it has been almost a year and is still working great and takes great pictures! She did say that the battery doesn't want to keep a long charge lately but that could just be because Christmas is coming and the only thing this camera could use are a few more features. But it's been a great buy all in all!

This is my very first digital camera. I bought it both for personal photos and to take shots of items I sell on eBay. It is very easy to use, and I had no problem finding my way around the different functions.

     "Great camera" 2010-02-13
    By K. Werner (Bensalem, PA)
This is a great camera that replaced an old Kodak EasyShare camera. The picture quality is great, and is great in low light conditions where the other camera needed a flash. If you are used to Kodak film colors, using a Kodak camera is a must. The HD video quality is also good, although the camera doesn't seem to hold focus at times like a normal video camera. However, this is a great feature in situations where you don't always want to take a separate video camera.

     "very good picture quality" 2010-02-10
    By T. R. Baker (Texas)
This camera takes very good pictures for the price range that it fits in. Very seldom do we have pictures out of focus, very crisp pictures probably 95% of the time. I own a few other cameras in this style/price range and this is the best of them. It is very user friendly, flash pops up when it senses that it needs it (could be a negative if you are taking pictures of wildlife). Zoom is powerful and accurate. I have had other Kodaks that were average, this one is very nice. Battery life is average, not very good.

     "horrible and DOESNT LAST" 2010-01-04
    By Erin Ferrell (Palmdale, Ca)
This would have been a 5 star camera if it did what it said it did, but it doesn't, AND I was not smart enough to search the web for reviews from mulitple sites until it was too late. I bought the camera and it worked less than a year but if your smart enought to read eveeryting you will see that Kodak has discountinued it. can the red flag get any clearer, not if your takening a picture with this piece of junk camera. I love Kodaks and have only owned and used them for all my camera needs but now I'm in need of another camera as this one just stopped working, no warning signs no anything , just when I needed it most for my bro-in-laws wedding that my kids and nieces and newphews were in, it just stops, I am very nervous to buy another. Kodak may have just lost one of their most loyal customers.

Excellent camera with good features. Easy to use. We have covered 4-5 major events in day and night time. Excellent results came in. The only disadvantage is the battery life. You need to carry 2-3 atleast if you have a longer time period event. Overall the product is really good.

     "Good camera overall" 2009-12-28
    By LyssaLou517 (Greensboro, NC)
In a nutshell, this is a good camera. Definitely not professional grade, but absolutely a great step up for beginners wanting to graduate from a point and shoot. I bought this camera about a year ago and I take it with me just about everywhere I go (I have a 6 year old and am always snapping away). It's fairly small, lightweight and fits easily in my pocketbook. Needless to say, this camera is one sturdy piece of equipment. It's been dropped several times and down right beat up from as much as I use it, but it's never broken and still works as well as the day I bought it.

In 'smart mode' this camera takes wonderful pictues. I have received several compliments on the quality of photographs taken. On the other hand, all the manual modes are pretty worthless.. but then again, if you're experienced enough to be using the manual modes and using them on a regular basis, it almost seems worthless to have this type of camera.

The only complaint I really have about this camera is it's overall speed and response time... Powering on and using the zoom lag more than I would like. Also when you use the 'burst' feature to take multiple images it takes the camera a reeeeallly long time to process the images once you're done shooting. Also be prepared to spend some bucks on batteries, as they are drained very quickly.

I would absolutely reccomend this camera to anyone who is currently using a simple point and shoot, and wants to upgrade (on a budget) prior to making the leap to an SLR.

     "Don't waste your money!" 2010-02-05
By Adrienne K. Weighall (Bakersfield, CA United States)
We bought this camera for our 7-year-old last year for Christmas. We wanted to find a camera that was not too expensive so it wouldn't be a big tragedy if it got broken. The flash stopped working about three months after we had it. When we finally got around to sending it in, they fixed the flash and sent it back and now it won't take videos. When you turn it to video mode and push the shutter button, it takes a picture. The picture quality is bad, too. The pictures aren't as good as my first digital camera, which was a Canon 3 megapixel or my second, which was a Fuji 5 megapixel. I don't understand why they can't take that older technology and make a really good inexpensive camera for kids! Most people don't need 8 megapixels (or more) anyway, and what good is a bigger picture if it looks like crap? The Fisher-Price kids cameras with the big rubber case take such bad pictures that they are not even worth buying, in my opion. How is that fun for kids? They want to be able to take pictures like mom does. This camera was a real disappointment.

Bought this for my Mom who knows nothing about anything digital. So easy to use and takes very nice pictures. It's a little bulky but for an easy point and shoot it's great.

"A great little camera for children and adults" 2009-12-27
    By sun's mom (US)
I was given this camera a year ago and have had it in my purse ever since so I won't miss a special moment. It is a great camera for those who don't want to fuss with lens settings etc. It does all the work for you and has many options that are all built in and are easy to use. I bought one for a 76 year old friend and my niece bought one for her seven year old daughter. We are all enjoying terrific pictures with little effort. This camera does not take good night pictures of lights [like Christmas] but fulfills all my other needs year round. Two things I would suggest purchasing are Lithium batteries as Alkaline are not long lasting in the camera,[copper tops don't work well at all], and a larger SD card. The lithium batteries I put in last year are still going strong and I purchased a card for a few dollars on line which holds 300 pictures. There are extras included with the camera that make it even more enjoyable. Look around the internet and you can find it for around $80.00 new. A later model is now out, but I found that this was the better of the two for me.

     "Kodak C813 Camera" 2009-11-23
By David L Southworth (Florida, USA)
Just got back from a trip to California and back to Florida, took 800+ photos. All turned out exceptionally good. This camera took about 300 photos (none w/flash) just on the rechargeable battery pack (about $9 or $10) and I had two AA cells in a case as back up. It took photos inside very dark Spanish cathedrals because of the great 1250 ISO rating. I took lots of photos from the car window while moving and they turned out very clear and any street signs were very readable. I simply connect the camera to the computer with the USB cord and the camera shows up as another drive, so then I just copy/paste photos from the camera to the computer. Also I can use the included Kodak software for transfer but I prefer the simpler copy/paste. The camera has no problem showing up as another drive (much like a flash drive added to the computer USB port). If you copy/paste photos they are all numbered serially to help keep them in order for viewing if you should add them to a viewing program. The only minor problem is that in a very bright outdoors environment it is somewhat difficult to view the area to be included in the photo, but certainly not impossible, not a problem for me but maybe for others. This is a very easy to use camera; when I wanted someone to take a photo for me I just asked they push and hold the button for a second or two and no one had any problem taking a good photo. The simplicity of photo taking is a real advantage as I could pull the camera from my pocket and snap a photo in seconds, then review it to see if I needed to take another photo; if so, I snapped the next photo within 5 or 10 seconds. I have the recharging/printing dock also which is really helpful; keeps the rechargeable battery always fully charged and camera ready to go anytime. Photos printed from the dock look just like from any photo shop w/excellent color.
