 "Great picutres but ..." 2010-01-18
By Ah Bel (Ottawa, Canada)
The qualify of the photos is very impressive, esp. with people. Really just point and shoot, and you get great shots. However, I really am disappointed with the following:

1. to switch to video takes too many steps

2. it is very easy to delete all photos while you are just trying to delete one

3. WORST, the Easyshare software (version 7.0) that came with the camera didn't work at all. Even after downloading the latest & greatest (version 8.0) from the Kodak website, it's still doesn't work. I chatted with Kodak support for like an hour, trying many things, and eventually, they just asked me to "clean up" (not just uninstall, but eradicate) Kodak Easyshare, and try the whole thing again. I haven't have the time to do so, so I'm just taking my SD card out to copy the photos/videos over for now.

Compare to Canon (I had a Canon A750), the Kodak Easyshare software is obviously & sadly inferior.

 "Kodak EasyShare" 2010-01-17

This is a good subcompact camera. I believe it should boot up a little faster. Also, the software is quite bloated. It would be nice to just plug and play with Windows XP.

By the time the camera actually takes a picture, your subjects have moved on!

Camera broke after only 4 months of gentle use!

 "Kodak M1093IS digital camera-disppointing!" 2009-12-09
By matt (NJ USA)
on a recent trip to Florida, I lost my Canon SD 1200IS digital camera which I was fairly happy with. The main drawback was that it only record video up to VGA resolution. The optical zoom and autofocus also does not operate once the recording starts. Based on the spec, the Kodak M1093IS seem to fit the bill. It was quite inexpensive($100) and record HD video at 720p resolution. Its optical zoom and autofocus also worked while recording. But I was quite disappointed with both still picture and video performance. Both the pictures or video are grainy-lots of chroma noise unless under perfect lighting conditions. The weak flash does not help on this matter either. While the optical zoom is operable during video recording, the video become very blurry during zooming. The autofocus kicks in after stopping zooming. The auto white balance also too sensitive and shifting visibly with slight change in lighting during panning. When playing back the video on computer, the audio and video got di-synchronized and the gap became increasingly larger as the clip getting longer although play back on camera appeared to be fine. The worst thing was that it give me error messages a couple of times and has to reformat the SD card to continue. Luckily, I did not have much important photos or video in it on those occasions. I also encountered error messages when transferring the pictures and videos to computer (claiming corrupt files) via the supplied USB cable. However, transferring the same through my SD card reader on the computer worked without any problem! I am not sure the SD card or the camera was the culprit. I do not have much confidence in this camera with important events. Overall, both still and video performance is below the Canon SD1200IS. I guess you get what you paid for! Maybe I have to buy another more reliable camera.
